Alyson Williams

Alyson lives in Cardiff with her wife and a chunky chocolate dachshund called Merlin. As a 70’s child growing up in the Rhondda valley, Alyson's favourite place was the library. When she grew up, she initially trained as a nurse before completing a degree in English Literature and training as a psychotherapist. Alyson decided to take her writing seriously when the pandemic made life feel fragile. The MA in Writing for Young People at Bath Spa has renewed her belief that stories help us cope with life's challenges.

The Secret Lamb of Aberfan

In the village of Aberfan it is five months since an avalanche of coal slurry engulfed the school, killing 116 children and 28 adults. Ten-year-old Gwenni Morgan's seven-year-old brother Bryn is one of the dead. Gwenni's guilt about shouting at Bryn on the way to school that terrible morning is overwhelming. With the 60th anniversary of the disaster coming in 2026, this Upper MG historical novel considers how, in a world where everything seems broken, a stray lamb will help Gwenni heal?
